Task Summary Tips. With USC’s first-year application deadline for merit scholarship consideration coming up on December 1st, many students are putting the finishing touches on the application. The typical Application provides a section for students to go over their principal extracurricular, volunteer, and work activities. As admission counselors we know that each student is going to spend their time outside the class room pursuing activities that are different so we thought it absolutely was important to fairly share some recommendations and misconceptions regarding this an element of the application.

Tip: Focus regarding the activities which can be the most important to you. We are most interested in what has influenced both you and your life, whether it is taking care of your younger siblings after college, publishing poetry to be published, or playing in your school’s soccer team.

Misconception: ‘Applicants require to have an amount that is certain of solution hours become competitive into the college admission procedure.’

The truth is the fact that it’s okay if community solution plays a huge part in your life or perhaps a minor one. We’re not centered on making sure applicants meet a certain list of kinds of involvements. During the end of the we’re most interested in that you are pursuing your interests and passions in some capacity day.

Tip: Explain the organizations with that you’ve been included! Although some acronyms are widely understood, such as ASB for Associated Student Body, we may not be familiar with every nickname. Do not assume that the social individuals reading your application are familiar with every activity offered at your school or in your community.

Misconception: ‘Colleges are just interested in knowing that learning students keep busy. As long as you join lots of organizations, you’re set.’

We hope to see applicants who possess dedicated themselves to a few activities that interest them, rather compared to a laundry variety of plenty of involvements. It isn’t essential exactly how organizations that are many join, but everything you did as a member or frontrunner in that company

Tip: we understand that students are going to have varying amounts of time to dedicate to different things while we are looking for students who are well-rounded and will contribute to our campus. Students have a lot on their plate: challenging courses, household duties, trying to keep a balanced life and hopefully have some fun at the same time! Verify both you and your interests come through into the application so that individuals can better understand what experiences have had an impact on you and played a role in your life.
